A reputable not-for-profit entity engaged in the management of educational institutions, construction, scholarship and cultural emergence programs needs a Finance Officer to perform financial management, general accounting and financial reporting functions for this Entity.

Duty Station:Montserrado County, Liberia with periodic travels to operating counties across Liberia

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop and oversee financial plans, budget and forecasts and provide insight to support strategic decision-making.
  2. Monitor and control budgets, tracking variances and implementing corrective measures as needed.
  3. Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports to management, board members, and relevant stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  4. Manage cash flow to ensure the entity’s liquidity needs are met, overseeing the inflow and outflow of funds.
  5. Oversee grant management, including the application process, reporting, and compliance with grant requirements.
  6. Ensure adherence to financial regulations, accounting principles, and reporting standards, maintaining compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  7. Establish and monitor internal controls to safeguard the assets and prevent fraud and financial mismanagement.
  8. Identify and assess financial risks, implementing strategies to mitigate potential challenges and protect the entity’s financial interest.
  9. Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations, managing tax filings and coordinating with tax advisors when necessary.
  10. Utilize QuickBooks Online and any other financial management systems and technology to streamline processes and enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
  11. Audit Coordination: Coordinate and facilitate external audits, working with auditors to provide necessary documentation and address audit findings.
  12. Financial Decision Support: Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making by senior management and board members.
  13. Stakeholder Communication: Communicate financial information effectively to internal and external stakeholders, fostering transparency and trust.
  14. Educational and Professional Development: Stay informed about changes in accounting standards, financial regulations, and industry best practices, and participate in relevant training and professional development activities to enhance expertise.
  15. Perform other duties as may be necessary.
Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting; Master’s Degree is an added advantage;
  • Must have 3-4 years’ relevant work experience in accounting and/or finance, preferably with a not-for-profit organization;
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in QuickBooks & Microsoft Suites (specifically, Excel, Word & PowerPoint);
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to pay attention to detail and maintain confidentiality;
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn and transfer knowledge;
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and in a team setting.
